Our Unit
Design for Displacement IV is a group of final year Masters of Architecture students led by our award-winning tutor, Laurence Wood. Having all individually chosen to join this unit, we have a shared interest in the ability of design and architecture to create positive change through preparedness strategies.
Now in its 4th year, Design for Displacement is exploring the displacement on a broader scale, exploring how Macro issues such as the growth of AI is impacting vulnerable communities across urban and rural settings in Portugal and Scotland.

Our Deliverables
Justification
Each of our four deliverables are designed to serve a specific function. We decided to communicate through this range of different media to represent the different aspects of our unit in the most effective and accessible way. The website is the main body of work, with the other pieces serving as introductions or guides to accessing all of our work.

D4D: The Movie
We introduce the unit through a short video. It presents the broader context of our unit, including our initial ideas and direction, while explaining the connection between architecture and global preparedness.

Master Diagram
This pin-up diagram illustrates our entire group work though process, beginning with our initial unit aims and research interests. It presents the different threads of analysis through 3 distinct stages, concluding with our individual breakaway points. Additionally, the diagram provides a navigational reference when used in conjunction with the website, allowing the viewer to orientate themselves within a web of interconnected topics.

The Leaflet
The leaflet simplifies the logistics of the website and explains how to navigate it in an accessible way. It serves not just as a map to be used in conjunction with the website, but also a brief introduction to our research topics.

The Website
The website presents a comprehensive, easy-to-use catalogue of our evidence-based research and analysis on global/macro, regional/meso and site-specific/micro scales.
Going forward, the website functions as a resource tool for our studio, allowing us to dip in quickly and explore different pathways of analysis as we progress our personal theses.
